This book is great to use for sequencing. You can use sentence strips (with the words on them) in a pocket chart and put the sequence of events in the correct order. You can also copy the pages for younger ones to do the same thing. Have students write their own version, or a new titled one like "Grandma/Grandpa/Dad Do You Love Me?" There's all kinds of things you can do.

ok, good just making sure we were talking about the same book. :)

I used the book as a read aloud. I pulled out vocabulary words I didn't think the kids would be familiar with. Parka, inuit, mukulaakas, (sp?) and etc... I explained the meaning and we discussed our word for these items. (coat, kayak, and boots)
I also had a cut and paste of eskimo wearing the parka and boots that I let them color and put together.

I also used these book to discuss feelings. The book talks about Mama being worried, angry, scared and etc... I have an old issue of the magazine Teacher's Helper (I think that is the name) and it had a page were their design their own story mask. There is a picture of a mask in the corner on the cover of the book. In each circle of the mask the kids drew what them scare, happy, sad, surprised and angry. They really loved creating their own mask and expressing their feelings. Some of their responses were sweet and some were funny.

I of course used the book to talk about eskimo's, igloos, artic animals and etc...

You could have them finish the sentences.
    I get mad when...
    I was surprised when...
    This makes me happy...
    I am very worried when...

I like the idea with sequencing! I will have to use that next time.

Hope some of these idea might help!

I want to say it was maybe the December/January issue of 2000-2001. I am not sure of the year. I will look at school tomorrow. It had 4 pages of activities that go along with that book.
