Yesterday, while waiting at a doctor's office (for 45 minutes for my 3 minute check up), I was browsing through the Jan/Feb issue of WebMD. One article was on stress factors in the workplace which I found relevant to both teachers and students. According to the article excessive tension is just as dangerous as smoking. A messy desk is a major factor in unnecessary workplace stress; less mess, less stress. Working overtime can over produce tension. Overtasking the brain causes it to drift away from a task; without a break, the adult brain can only focus on a task at optimum level for 90-120 minutes at a time.
