    Hi All!

At my school we have assessments we need to give every Kindergartener every quarter. It takes about 20 minutes for each Kindergartener to complete it. You have to take time to test each child individually. How do you folks have time during the day-besides nap time?

    Thank you!

    Time for assessing

We also have common assessment for each quarter. I pull my students during centers to assess. It takes about a week to assess the whole class on all of the skills, only a few can be done whole group.

Double check with your school - some schools will provide release days to teachers who need to do DIBELS or other assessments like that.

We don't have nap time. During stations/centers is when I usually do it. Sometimes we have a sub come in and the teacher tests, if we don't, the kids color a lot more than usual and have an extra rotation of stations for a few days.

We don't have a nap time. Like others have said I rotate it in during centers, and it takes multiple days. Also, during a testing window I increase the amount of independent work I plan for the kids (time consuming cut/paste/color type activities are great) so I can get some one on one time to test.

Thanks for the replies. How long is your center time and how long does it take to test each student. I take 20 minutes minimum per student and it takes away from the valuable learning time. I think the students get bored of centers after a while. I might just have to give them more independent work.

We partner up and one teacher takes two classes. The other tests, while the first teacher watches a movie or does an art lesson.

I assess during my literacy stations and math centers. I also have a 15-20 minute read to self time after lunch/recess that I use for assessing time, usually just DIBELS progress monitoring.

If necessary, i would pull them from their specials and do it then too. Centers, independent work and during bathroom breaks too. (During bathroom breaks I would put on tumblebooks or storyline online)

Do you normally pull small groups during centers? I normally would assess students during centers in lieu of pulling a small group that week.
