Well, I attended the board meeting. My friend, who also interviewed for the same position, sat next to me. When they called her name for the job, I was very happy for her and I gave her a tap and said, "Congrats!"

After the meeting, she told me she was going to give my name to her principal. Right now, she's working my name around her school contacts. Tomorrow, I'm heading to her now-former school to hand resumes out!

Yesterday, I went to the places where my friend is leaving. She was a full-time math teacher split between 2 schools. The 1st one, my friend gave my name to an AP, so when I introduced myself, she said hello and told me the P was on vacation but would gladly leave my resume with him.

Then, on to the other school, I went into the office and was told to have a seat. A counselor and the P were having discussions in the P's office about their math teach leaving. Then, the counselor read a text to the P saying, "I know someone named (my name) who could be a candidate to replace me." The counselor walks out and asks who I am. I reply and she said, "I thought that was you. You'll be speaking with the P shortly."

I'm introduced to the P and we have a brief sit-down concerning what's going on. He said he had found out about my friend transferring about 10 minutes before I walked into his door! I guess he is now inconvenienced! Hopefully, having my name and face known at the 2 places helps my chances!

Felt like forever when I was last here! The posting for the open math position finally closed today. It's the position that my friend left and provided my name to her principals. Hopefully, I get a callback.

Tomorrow, I have an interview for a HS math job. It's 65 miles away!!

Hoping that you get that callback on the closer one, but that anything turns up for you here! When does the school year start in your area?

If the one with the longer commute comes through, do you have the option of moving?

Some school systems start August 1st. Others August 8th.

If the longer commute is my only choice, I'll drive it. I'm not moving. If a school system can just dump you after 3 years, I don't see any reason to move when I'm just starting out.

That makes sense if you're happy where you live. I moved a LOT as I switched jobs until Rockhubby and I bought a house.

UPDATE: Went on my interview.... The one that is 65 miles from my house. It was scheduled from 9-10 but I walked in at 8:45 and we sat and talked until 10:15. So far, this has been my best interview of my teaching career. I had three interviews 3 years ago and three interviews this summer. I seemed to qualify on everything he was looking for PLUS being willing to take Praxis to become certified in the mathematical sciences! It was almost like he was telling me that I would teach math this year, be given a year to pass Praxis exams, and then teach math and science going forward....... Then a friend of mine went into her interview and hers lasted 2 hours.... She said it was a good interview for her!

In the meantime, I'm hoping and waiting for a callback from a closer school district. It's good to have choices... ;)

This is sounding like a great fit if you can handle the commute.

Hypothetical situation where I need advice:

Let's say the school which is 65 miles away calls on either Monday or Tuesday and offers me a position. Right now, I am anxiously waiting for a call to interview at a much closer school system (25 miles). If those closer school system is to call, it would also be Monday or Tuesday and more likely on Monday. The only way to find out if the closer school hires me is when I attend the board meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30p. All in all, I would have to hold off the other school until Thursday!

How should I go about this if everything lines up the way I described?

Tell far school you need a couple days to decide. If they pressure you into a quick decision, that probably says more about them than about you.
