Hi - I'm new here and my apologies if I'm not posting in the right discussion.

I'm developing an iPhone/Android app for teachers and parents an I need a little information periodically about basic ways the classes are arranged.

Basically, the main thing I was wondering...

When do students start having different classes/teachers as opposed to one Homeroom?

What do they teach in homeroom - how many different subjects?

How often is a homework assignment? Daily, weekly, etc?

How many different subjects are there on average?

    ***ALSO***

If you have any suggestions of something that may help teachers/students/parents that I could review and possibly implement in the APP please let me know.

This will get me started :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Jason

I think that you'll find that there is no easy answer to your questions as many of those are site-based or classroom-based decisions.

What is the purpose of your app?

The answers to all of your questions will vary school to school and even teacher to teacher. Whatever app you create needs to be customizable or it won’t come close to meeting everyone’s needs. It also better be free or very inexpensive. Teachers can’t afford to spend big bucks on apps, even if they are helpful to use, and most schools won’t reimburse or pay for them.

We already have free or school-required programs/apps for contacting parents, updating grades, sending reminders, etc. I’m not sure what else we’d need, honestly.

Most of the answers to these questions vary widely depending on the school and district.

For classes, most students have: math, reading, writing, science, social studies/history, and some type of elective or special.

The simple answer is that it varies.

I know of a district that departmentalized kindergarten to twelfth grade.

Some schools require daily homework while others require none.

The number of subjects will depend on the state and local requirements.
