I was offered a job, and my next step is to get fingerprinted. How long does it take for the results to come back? I know I'll definitely pass, but I want to know how long it'll take before I get to sign the contract. I'm sure they have to wait until the fingeprinting results come back.

Fingerprint results can come back in 48 hours. I was told by my local Sheriffs department. Though I have been printed several times, for my certificate of clearance and for a couple of jobs, so that is supposed to help. I would estimate a week at the longest for a new person. :)

Hmmm... when I applied for a job with LAUSD, they told me it would take about 3-4 weeks for the fingerprints to be checked (and I got called for a job in 3 weeks).

I had to get a state fingerprint clearance card and they told us it would take anywhere from 6-8 weeks, I think I got mine back in less time than that.

It depends on how they fingerprint. The newer systems like LiveScan can take hours (rarely) or a week or two. It depends on how busy they are and which state you are in. Some handle them more quickly.

This is what they told me when I was fingerprinted with LiveScan a little over a year ago (I was actually the first person in my county to get fingerprinted with their new LiveScan machine!)

Yes, I'm sorry I just assumed everyone was doing Live Scan now. I worked for a company(a bank) that even purchased their own machine because it was so fast.

It took 4-6 weeks for mine - I'm in New York. However, I know that schools still hire teachers "pending fingerprint clearance." That is how it usually written on the board minutes.

Wow, Mrs. Gould, I can't believe they hire people with "pending clearance". What if they hire some sort of child molester or sex offender and let him work BEFORE they find out who he is?

I know - that is a good point! Actually, I think that only happens when they are making emergency appointments, or they hire at the beginning of the summer so by the time they will be teaching, the fingerprints should be in.

    It is definitely Livescan

I know for sure that it's Livescan, so hopefully it won't take too long.

I was hired "pending fingerprint clearance" last fall. I don't know how long it took to get the results back because I signed my contract the same day they did the fingerprinting.

People are hired all the time pending fingerprint clearance, because the fingerprint clearance is a conditional agreement, so the contract isn't valid unless the person passes the fingerprint clearance.

Not a problem as long as the school has it before school starts.

Ok, so I had to go and dig and find some paperwork, because I felt bad maybe I was giving false info and that would be WRONG!
Well, last year before the 2006-2007 school, I was Live Scanned on 7/15 and school began 8/15, I know I got the job before school started...so that is less than 6-8 weeks.
The paperwork says DOJ and FBI service, mind you I already had been scanned 5 times between 2004-2006 included in that is my Certificate of Clearance as required by University to be in the Teaching/Master program, that was issued in 2005.
I just wanted to share that I did not think it would take too long. I don't want to miss lead.
Hope that helps you, ChristinMcG:) !
