Hi everyone. I'm doing student teaching this semester in a 5th grade class. I have to teach a lesson on finding the area of various shapes. For example, the students are just going to have to count the amount of squares within the shape to find the area.

However, I want to do something more than just a worksheet. I was looking to have them do something more interactive and fun in which they can move around and maybe do group work. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have them trace around objects and fill in the traced shape with unifix cubes to determine area with nonstandard measurement.
