This is my first full year of teaching. Even though my coworkers tell me I’m doing a good job, and for the most part my students showed positive growth on their STAR reading tests, I’m worried about the ISATs in the spring. I’ve never administered or helped to administer these high stakes tests. Is my room under control and do I get work back from my students? Yes. Do they generally do what they’re asked when they’re asked? Yes. But this all seems really...surface level. I’m worried that my particular group of students won’t do well and that will pretty much be it for my teaching career. But maybe I worry too much? I’ve researched and I can’t seem to find a solid answer over how much weight these test scores hold for keeping a teaching position... Everyone tells me “just survive” your first year. But that doesn’t sound good enough to stick around.
