What an amazing sight! Our school is in Hollywood so we actually were lucky enough to see it fly right over the Hollywood sign. Poor kids were hot and sweaty, but every single one of them said it was worth it afterwards!!

Anyone else get a chance to check it out??

I didn't see it... but it is something they will never forget!!
We saw a shuttle take off in Florida when I was in High School... we had to stay up up til between 1-3am to see it with a busy day the next day, but it's something I will NEVER EVER forget!!!

I saw it fly over my school near Houston. I don't think my kids really understood, but they liked it.

When Endeavor left for that last time, I had such a bittersweet feeling, almost like saying good bye to a dear friend. I have been watching the shuttles take off since the first one and it feels like an era has passed that will never be recaptured.

I'm so glad that so many people around the country will be able to enjoy learning about the shuttles up close now.

I had the live feed up for my kids when Endeavor left Florida... the all came into 1st period just in time to see it take off  Then I had to explain why it was piggy-backing to Texas.

It's very bittersweet. Watching that, it finally hit me: I'll never step out into the front yard and see another shuttle launch ever again. I grew up dropping everything and running outside to watch them set off for space.

But taking down 400 trees to get it in place? There must have been a better solution or place to display it.

We were on a field trip at the science center - where it will end up - it was great - the kids were almost as excited as I was and when we got back to school the principal was also all excited - the school was outside for lunch when it flew by. How cool! I had my camera out but completely forgot to take a picture!

And yes I agree about the trees. I think there was probably a better solution. I just don't know what.

We stood out on our playground when it was supposed to be flying over, but weren't able to see anything.

    My kiddos were so sad!

I was upset about the trees, too, but if they replace them and do something useful with the wood, it doesn't really hurt anything.

My cousin posted a picture of it. She lives around Hollywood.

I have heard they will replace the trees (2 for 1), but unless they spend mega-bucks and buy large trees, it will be years before the new is anything like the old.

It went right over our backyard about 10:30 in the morning. It was so loud the building shook and so low it looked like you could have reached up and touched it. Very cool sight!

    Exactly.

Putting myself if the residents' shoes, I would be incredibly upset.

To everyone complaining about the trees, really?

How many trees are there on this Earth? How many trees are cut down every day for lesser reasons? How many space shuttles are there? How many kids will be inspired to become scientists and engineers after seeing the space shuttle in a museum?

Case closed. The trees are coming down, and I couldn't be happier.

    Yes, really.

If I lived there it would be upsetting.

And you're right. Trees are taken down for lesser reasons. Doesn't mean residents should be thrilled to see their trees go.

But it's nice that you've been able to settle this debate and close the case...

It wasn't visible where I am, but DD works up in Santa Clara and said it seemed like the entire city was out in the streets to see it. I look forward to seeing it up close at the Science Center.
