I just found out today that I can log onto DonorsChoose.org and pretty much be garunteed any requests that I have for materials I'd like for my classroom. So my question to all of you is. If you were able to have things donated free to your room...what would you choose. I'm trying to be realistic about this. This doesn't happen to a small district like mine very often. So what in your classroom could you not live without????

Do you have someone who is ready to make the donations? My first three proposals were funded very quickly, the three I have up, now, have been up for months and no response. I wrote for forensics activities for my science classes, a video camera, and a binding machine.

white board markers....I bet you use lots.
A group set of a short novel.
    leveled readers
A subscription to Weekly Reader or Scholastic weekly/monthy magazines, other children's magazines.
    basic school supplies
A special video/dvd that would match your curriculum

If you list things that are small in price but that you have high demand for, then donators will more likely get the things for you.

Same here! I had my first proposal funded in a few weeks, and now I have one about to expire without a single donation. :( I think it helped that my funded proposal was smaller - like $150. Had I known, I would have split up my other proposal, even though more proposals cost more points.

I signed up for that a year ago and got nothing. Nada-zippo-zilch.

So, I'm back to spending my own money (well, I guess I never stopped)

I have most of the basics that I want (After spending oo-gobs of my own money over the years). However, I am always in need of consumables such as folders, pencils, and especilly dry-erase markers since I use them for centers and in my reading groups. Second graders can be very hard on the points, and they don't last long. Center games and classroom library books would also always be welcome. I'd also use money for trinkets for my treasure chest. And speaking of consumables, my school district is eliminating consumable workbooks this year to cut down on costs, so I'd love to have my language arts practice books back, but I don't know if that would be an option for this source (which sounds like a GREAT resource...I'll have to check it out!)
