I feel EVERYONE'S pain! I passed part 3 a few months ago after 3 attempts! I was soooo frustrated! My job for this upcoming school year depended on it! I damn near had to memorize the story, the author, the questions, and the exact arrangement of things in order to come home, study, look up the authors and stories, and create my own study guide. I was lucky enough to get the same test my 3rd time around. They are looking for how well you support what you state. Use certain Eng terms, such as; organization, structure, tone, setting, mood, voice, narrator, author. Make sure you include those words. And support what you state. The study materials for sale on Amazon were a waste of money! They did nothing to prepare me! I hope this helps! You can do it! Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know.

    Good luck!!

You make an excellent point. Trying to not change an answer unless one is sure that it's incorrect. In your experience, how confident were you about going with your gut-instinct? I've learned how to use it during the practice tests, but on the actual tests, I would find myself second-guessing myself. In a way, I would take the gut-instinct a step further. Do you have any studying suggestions that could help prevent this problem?

    Hey guys,

I'm planning to take the English CSET as well, so far after reading all the forums the one sub-test I'm most worried about is the third one. From what I read online a lot of people have purchased english cset study guides from Orange County's department of education. Have any of you heard positive feedback or if the guides are worth the price? The study guides are expensive...

I'm mainly using is the REA CSET ENGLISH SUBTEST 1-1V book but I would like to add more study materials. If you have any other materials you think would benefit me please tell me! I'm desperate ....

Welcome to A to Z, School_92! What's your background in English? Have you written any analyses of literary or nonliterary prose recently? Or at all?

    Hello everyone,
I too am studying and preparing to take the English CSET and would like to know what resources everyone is using to prepare. I purchased Teachers Test Prep and did not pass Subtest II. I went in feeling SO confident, but during the test I did not recognize the majority of the test questions! I recetly purchased the REA book and feel that the practice questions are similar to those I found on the test unlike the practice questions on Teachers Test Prep.
If anyone has recently taken the subtests this year and passed please share any helpful resources. I'd greatly appreciate it!!! :)

I just passed Subset 1 today and I do not think you have to read whole works to pass. I was not an English major (history) and am a little shocked I passed on first try. I did not find it to be either like the practice tests on the CSET website or from the REA CSET English prep book which was scary. I was hoping for more questions on movements or even rhetoric. Really the stuff I memorized and I knew. A lot of reading, some editing and a lot of process of elimination was what it cane down to. Not much recall.
