I was wondering who uses a calendar wall in 2nd? And if so what kind of things do you have on it? Fact family house? Clock? Number of the day? Etc. thanks

We use Every Day Counts Calendar Math from Great Source and each month we have different components to add. You may want to do a coin counter, some type of graph, something with time and measurement.

I have a math focus wall, which has interactive days of the week and weather on it. Next to that bb I have a calendar pocket chart. I have a calendar leader who's job is to update it each day. For actual calendar mini-lessons, I do that on the SMARTboard. After about a month, one of my students leads this time during our morning meeting. I rotate skills each month. This includes skip counting (5s, 10s, 100s, 25s, 4s,and 3s), time, money, months of the year (order, # of days, abbreviations), and whatever skills they may be struggling with as a class.

I do calendar time every morning. We have a calendar where they tell yesterday's date and today's date. I also have a weather chart and a large magnetic clock. I pull sticks to decide who will tell the weather and the time. In addition, I have a chart for our number of the day. They have to show the number in six different ways. There is a box for the numeral, number word, tally marks, ten frame, model drawing, and base ten blocks/place value. I pull a stick for each box.

Sorry my computer cut me off before I could explain... I also have a number of the month like 10. Then each date, we add and subtract from that number. If it's September 4th, we write 10 + 4 = 14 and 10 - 4 = 6.

I used Everyday Counts with third and fifth grades. I loved it. Each month had a theme and the calendar pieces, which usually related to the theme, formed patterns. If the theme for the month was plane figures, calendar pieces each showed different figures in varied sizes and colors. The patterns alone were worth investigating. But, there was so much more to do! We counted the days out of 100 and named them by fraction, decimal and percentage of 100. We discussed a bit more about how to know these each day. (Percentage means parts out of the whole, place value positions of decimals, etc.) Yes, even with third graders. The themes of probability and measurement had lots of fun hands-on things to do and I invited the helper of the week to demonstrate each daily activity. Everyone graphed results and recorded everything they could remember each day in their daily calendar journals. They might write, "Today is September 5, 2016. It is the tenth day of school. We wrote it as 10/100, .10, and 10%. The pattern piece was a yellow square. I predict that tomorrow's piece will be a red triangle, because the pattern is ......" They had to write the date correctly. When we got to working on fractions in math, they already had so much background that ithe conceptscame easily to them.
