There is a poem about classroom walls being bare. It is designed for the beginning of the year and talks about how we'll soon have our work up. I'd really like to make a poster of it to put up on one of my BBs for meet the teacher night. I've been searching the web, but without remembering the title or an exact line, it's kind of hard. I'm hoping someone on here knows what I'm talking about and could provide a link or type out the poem.

    Thanks!

oh I'd love to see this as well. I believe that walls should be bare at the beginning and be filled as the year progresses.
I hope some has this poem.

I've been looking for days. I posted on here just about ready to give up my search (with fingers crossed that someone knew it and would share). I think I found it. If anyone else has any similar, please post! :) :thanks:

    Room Under Construction
    author unknown

Our room may look a little bare…
But that doesn’t mean that we don’t care!
In fact, the opposite is true…
For decorating it – we kids will do!
Each poster, chart and classroom sign
We make together: learn line for line
And when we put things on the walls,
You will hear us from the halls
Shouting. “This classroom’s mine, and it is fine…
Because we were a part of its design!”

Thank you! I already copied it and saved it for my BB this fall! Great idea! I always dread getting the room decorated because it's all store bought stuff and that's not what we should be putting up. My principal doesn't want "decorations" up. She wants authentic student work instead.

Teacher Chele, those ARE cute! Thanks for sharing! There is a cute welcome poem on the tooter4kids page that I might put in my letter I send out in August.

I love it. I can put that up to explain why my walls aren't covered with pre-made signs.

    You made my day!!!

Glad I could help. That is exactly why I was looking for it. One of my fellow first grade teachers always has that cutesy pre-made stuff all over her room. It makes it look like I'm a slacker.
