We are starting the alphabet in PK3 and plan to have a different snack that corresponds to the alphabets. I am looking for any websites or references of simple recipes that can be provided the children at snack time. Thanks.
Rooty, go to the library and check out AlphabetThemeasaurus. For each letter there are umpteen activities and snacks. It's a huge book in the resource section, and has a dinosaur on the cover.
Alphabet Themeasaurus Hi Becky, THanks for the reference. I just checked my library through iBistro and they don't have it. I couldn'd find it on Amazon.com. Do you know who the author is or publisher? Thanks. Donna
It's put out by Warren Publishing, and I think the author's name is Jean Warren. I hope you find it, because it helped me teach my little one all the letters and their sounds.

A great resource A wondeful book that I use is called "Alphabet Recipes for Snacktime" it is published by scholastic the ISBN #: 0-439-30359-1 These are all no cook recipces and most are nutrious. It also includes a poem for each snack which I like to put on chart paper and have the class come up and circle letters they recognize. (I let mine circle any letter they know not just the letter of the week) I love this book. If there is specific letter you are struggling with let me know. Our favorites have been the Wishing wand for W (pretzel rod, peanut butter, chopped nuts, and a few cookie sprinkles so they sparkle) and the Lion for L (small flour tortilla, peanut butter, pretzel sticks, rasins, mini ritz cracker, and shoestring licorice). Though it takes some work from you, you could bake cookies in letter shapes. The cookie cutters are readily available.
I like the book Alphabet Cooking Cards by Cheryl Olmstead (Fearon Teacher Aids FE-0454) Each recipe creates a single-serving snack.
You can also roll pretzel dough in the shape of various letters, or mix a few drops of food coloring in milk... kids "paint" letter on bread, then toast it.
Encourage Parents To Extend Your Work By Picking Letters Of The Alph. To Go Shopping With Them. Like- A,b,c,& D. These Letters Can Go With Them To The Grocery Store, Mall, Grandparents House, Wherever. The Child Must Find Something That Starts With That Letter, And Each Letters That You Brought With You. EXAMPLE: A- BUY AN "APPLE". Even The Child Can Pick The Letters That Go. Let Them Have A Different Visual Of The Alphabet. Soon Letters Will Just "follow Them" Where Ever They Go!!!!
