A charter school is stealling 43 million dollars from public schools by not handing them the investment instead. It’s not even happening in Indiana! This kind of thinking needs to stop! How dare we personalize student learning! Everyone should be learning the exact same way for the exact same amount of money! Unless they need more because then you should give them more. This madness needs to end just like charters need to end! Don’t people realize Oracle is trying to enslave these children?!?!?

I roll my eyes at having to have a fancy building (I really don't get this...) but I love the idea of the business mentoring! That's fantastic.

They have to trick people with the fancy facade or else they would realize its a 43 million dollar prison hell bent on segregating students.

This has nothing to do with segregation. Did you actually read the article? I’m starting to get really tired of public schoolteachers declaring everything they don’t like as racist or discriminatory.

Please explain how this plan is going to create a prison atmosphere. Seriously, I'm not seeing it.

This is the kind of school I would send my nonexistent children to! The opportunities!

Great trolling. You almost got me to give a well-reasoned response but that's ok

Sadly, this is not news. Charter school scandals are common due to the lack of regulations and accountability in many states.

The charter industry has many straight shooters, but those are tarred by the widespread charter industry corruption. If you google "charter school scandal" you can find a staggering amount of heartbreaking activity that results in shoddy or disrupted education for children and the looting of the public treasury.

It is true that some charter schools are disastrous, but there are more traditional public schools that are disastrous. For every charter school that you point to that underperforms I can point to its public school counterpart that is performing just as bad.

Where is the $43 million coming from? I am confident that most of it is in private grants and donations, not tax dollars (CA doesn't have that kind of $ to give).

Also, I question the idea that this is going to give local kids a better option, since Belmont is a very high SES community and some of the best schools in the state are in the area. I see this as, yet again, a wealthy community that is going to continue to provide good options to their kids and families.

I would add that your post title implying that the school is "stealing" money from public schools is misleading and kinda click-baity.

The article says that the money comes directly from the company sponsoring the school. No one stole anything.

I get the sarcasm in the OP, but it seems to be trying to represent a counterclaim to circumstances that don't really exist. Most people who oppose charter schools don't hate the idea of students having different opportunities and paths when it comes to learning. The opposition tends to be with using public monies to fund these charters, when that public money is earmarked for traditional public education. I myself support school choice as far as families choosing for themselves the type of schooling that works best for their kids. What I don't like is public dollars funding privately-run charters.
