:hugs:I am certified for the ec-4 and wanted to start my teachering career with 1st and 2nd, but I have been offered for a 3rd grade position.

For those of you who have taught 3rd grade, please tell me its not as bad as they say.

Can some of you give me the insight on it, pros and cons.

Thanks, I will decide based on your comments.

Well, I student taught in 3rd grade. I loved it!! They were still young enough, but were more independent then 2nd graders. The only drawback I see is preparing them for the TAKS test. But if you are excited about it, 3rd grade is not a stretch from 2nd grade so I say go for it!!

What part of TX are you in?

Good luck! Are you going to take it?

Teaching third will be great!!! You are working with an age group that is still eager to please you and hasn't been "tainted" by the media too much!! LOL
Go for it and best wishes to you!!

I student taught 2nd grade, and in my interview I asked for a 2nd or 3rd grade job. I got 3rd grade, and I love it!

This is my 13th year in 3rd grade, and I love it! Third graders are a little different. At least that's what I have been told by my partners who have moved to 3rd from different grades! The thing I love is that they are usually motivated to do their best for very small incentives, like just putting a small stuffed animal on their desk! I love it.

I have to say, today is my day off from my .7 long term supply position so I got called in to supply teach for the music teacher, and the grade three classes were my favorites (partly because I taught a grade two class last year for my practicum, so I had a lot of my kids from last year.... but they were generally the best behaved.)

    Interview Outcome

Just to let everybody know the outcome, it did not go well. They asked me so many questions, i choked. They asked about guided reading, taks and kids who are in GT. I was so nervouse that I went blank when they asked about guided reading. I couldn't think of anything to say as if I didn't even know what it was. I think it went horrible, but I also realized I have so much more to learn. Those questions I couldn't answer, I will now use them to my advatage. I will work on my weakness that I have. Thanks everybody for the input.

You never know, littlebit...just stay positive. The first interview I had when they asked those questions, I totally flubbed it. You get better with each interview. So I should slam dunk the next one!!
