Lemonhead did a great job of starting a thread where we listed all of the people who landed jobs last spring...so I figured I'd start one this year since we have a friend with a job already!

    What general geographic area?
And of course what grade and/or subject?

I decided I would look for a position in a bigger district - one in particular. I sent app in January and no response. Finally they had a job fair just last Saturday. I went and talked to the school at the job fair. They did the screening and then I talked to the AP at the job fair. She told me they would call Monday for an interview and they did. I went to the interview with AP and principal on Wednesday. Principal called my references on Thursday and called me with offer on Thursday. (I was shocked it happened so fast).

This was my first interview after about 20 resumes - most to schools with NO openings.I did not go to all schools at job fair and almost gave up and left. This was the last school I went to (I decided to try just one more - and I'm glad I did).

General area - DFW, but certainly not Dallas.

    I teach 1st grade

My advice is don't give up. Had I gave up (like I felt like) I would have left the job fair and not have talked to the school that wound up offering me the job.

oh, but I currently work in a district to the east of south part of Dallas - about 30 miles from Dallas). They will be needing a 1st grade teacher!

How long have you been trying?
I've been looking around since January, but I waited until I was armed with at least my Praxis I scores in early March before I started seriously sending out resumes.

How many resumes did you send out?
    About 25.

How many interviews or job fairs?
I've been to 2 jobs fairs, and so far I've landed 1 interview out of each fair--a public inner city charter high school, and a Catholic 7-12 school.

    What general geographic area?
Northwest Indiana. Before this is over, I may expand into some of the south Chicago suburbs in Illinois near the state line.

And of course what grade and/or subject?
    High School Mathematics

    What I've landed so far:
Teaching a Pre-Algebra enrichment program at the Catholic 7-12 school over the summer. All we need is for 10 kids to sign up before June 1st. I even have a copy of the contract I will sign. I'm not going to mention the name of the school here, but I've given you enough information to find it on Google in about 90 seconds.

    So, what's next?
Next Monday I should know my scores on the Praxis II Math Content Exam. I'm 95% certain that I've passed. This will be the final piece required for me to qualify for an emergency teaching license in Indiana for secondary math. As you read this I am probably assembling a packet to submit to every school district in the region as soon as I know those scores.

Since I am not a fully certified teacher, however, my resume goes to the bottom of the pile. I would like to think that I'll be hired at the last minute for the fall for a public high school in one of the "rougher" school districts in the area. I'm realistic about my chances, though, and I am also currently working on "Plan B".

This was one of the first jobs I applied for in March.
How many resumes did you send out?
    ~10
How many interviews or job fairs?
1... Crazy! I nailed it on the first interview. I was signed up for a job fair (interviewing with 5 school corporations), but I'm not going since receiving this offer.

*bump* It's been a slow year so far, though I know it will pick up.

The Ohio Department of Education job bank is already starting to pick up. If anything pops up from my own school, I will certainly post the information here (especially since we employ across the state). I'd LOVE to be able to recommend any of you for a position at my school!
